Bus Crashed

Hollis Wright filed a case November 28, 2018, in Calhoun County, Alabama against Teague VIP Express, an Alabama-based commercial bus company. Teague VIP was operating the commercial bus involved in the deadly bus accident in DeSoto County, Mississippi, that claimed the lives of two individuals and injured more than 40 others in early November 2018. As alleged in the Complaint filed today by George and Hassie Nance, Teague VIP employed a commercial driver that was both unskilled and incapable of operating the commercial bus at the time of the accident.

As noted by Josh Wright, managing partner at Hollis Wright who filed the case, "this commercial carrier has a long history of maintenance issues that call into question whether the bus should have been on the road on November 14, 2018. Our goal in filing this case is to compensate those who were injured by this terrible accident and to send a message to this carrier, and others similarly situated, that you are transporting cargo that truly matters: real people with lives who trusted that they would be delivered to their destination safely, and delivered by a driver that was capable of operating a commercial bus in the first place."

The defendants will have 30 days to respond to the lawsuit after they are served, which will happen in the coming weeks. "We will get to the bottom of why this driver was overdriving the weather conditions, both through witnesses and forensics", stated Wright. "This accident should never have happened."

Two-Vehicle Crash Near Intersection of Highway 280 and Shelby County 280

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —The family of the woman who was killed in a two-vehicle crash last week is looking for answers as to what caused the crash.

According to the family’s attorney, Jordan Matson, 25, was in the wrong place at the wrong time when her vehicle was struck just after 8 a.m. on Oct. 20 near the intersection of Highway 280 and Shelby County 280.

Matson was on her way to day care to drop off her 8-month-old son before heading to work. Matson was a hairstylist at Studio 21 on Highway 280 a few miles away.

She never made it.

Investigators said an 18-wheeler driven by Renae Garner-James, 39, struck Matson's Honda CRV.

She died at the scene.

"The family's obviously devastated,” attorney Josh Wright said. “This has been something that will change their lives forever. Not only did they lose a mother to an 8-month-old child, they lost a daughter, a sister and a wife."

Wright said a half-dozen witnesses have come forward confirming what is in the accident report.

“The preliminary accident report states that Jordan Matson was lawfully going through the intersection on a green arrow at that very busy intersection near the Narrows, and that the tractor trailer ran the red light," Wright said.

Wright said his law firm still has a lot of ground to cover.

“Ultimately when the vehicles released, and the cellphone is available, we'll have the opportunity to forensically evaluate those things and hopefully get some answers for the family,” Wright said.

The attorney for Miller and Son Trucking in Mississippi said he is also looking into the crash.

October 26, 2015

Birmingham, AL

Jordan Mays Matson was beautifully laid to rest today after an accident that took her life October 20, 2015 on US Hwy 280. The family simply asks for prayers and peace as they deal with this terrible tragedy.

The events that led to the unfortunate death of this wonderful 25 year old mother, wife, sister and daughter, are being fully and completely investigated at this time. Josh Wright of the firm Hollis Wright has been retained to represent the family and assist in the investigation. If anyone witnessed the event, they are encouraged to contact Hollis Wright at 205-324-3600.

More information will be provided in the future as to the cause of her death, and the injuries to her 8 month old child. At this time, however, it appears that the car seat her son was riding in played a significant role in preventing severe physical injuries. For that, the family is grateful. The family would like to thank all of the first responders to the scene as well as the therapy worker(s) that pulled Jordan’s son to safety immediately after the accident.

"I, along with dad and family, want to thank your law firm for all that you did for us in representing my dad in his case. We were very satisfied with the settlement and the overall efforts by your firm. We also think that you and your staff made the process seem calm and smooth, yet professional. We could not have asked for a better attorney -- we would recommend you and your firm to anyone needing your expertise. Thanks so much for everything!!!" D. Hayes and C. Griffin, Clay County, AL

"Mr. Clay, I want to express my gratitude to you for agreeing to take my case. I know that I contacted your law firm with a fast approaching statute of limitations and some really significant challenges in proving my case. Thanks for the time, work, research and energy that you put into my case and for helping achieve a successful outcome. Peace and blessings to you and your family." V. Daniel, Philadelphia, PA

"The team at Hollis Wright were there for my husband when no one else would take his case. Not only did he work hard and recover money that we were owed. Without the help of Hollis Wright, we couldn't have afforded the care my husband needed and I would have lost him much sooner. We'll always consider you a part of the family." Donna B. Jemison, AL
